For my first week of work experience I wanted to work in a law firm as to the fact that I've a keen interest in law and have considered studying it for third level education. Luckily one of my first cousins on my mums side is a practicing solicitor at Daniel Spring and Co. so I asked Evelyn if she would have me for a week. She said yes and I had my first week of work experience planned nice and early. On the Monday morning of the fourth of December I woke up very early to catch the train. I got the 8 o'clock dart in from greystones and met Conor and Ralph on it. I got off at Pearse Station and went for breakfast in a local centra that did chicken fillet rolls for only €3. The law firm I was working in is in Fitzwilliam square which was really convenient because it was only a five minute walk from the dart station. As I arrived in the law firm I went to reception and my cousin came down and got me. She then gave me a tour of the five story office and I said hi to everyone which was nice. There is about 30 people working there and it is always very busy. After all this it was around 9:30 and there was a company meeting at 12:30, which I was asked to set up and prepare for. Before I went any further I was given a talk about confidentiality and how important it was that I wouldn't tell anyone details of any of these cases that I would be reading over. I then prepared for the meeting and was given money by the company to go and buy 14 sandwiches (2 vegan ones) for the specific employees attending the meeting. This was nice and easy and I got a free lunch out of it! After the meeting I cleaned up the room and food and was asked to do a few time passing jobs like photocopying, binding, filing and moving boxes. It was about 3 o'clock by the time I had finished my jobs and I was asked to do one final task, statement collection. I went and received a statement from a person who was involved with one of the cases one of the solicitors was currently working on and it was cool because it really gave me a preview of the whole job. It was then 4 o'clock and time to go home so I caught the train back and went home. On the morning of Tuesday, December fifth I got the 8 o'clock dart in again and could t find Ralph and Conor in the morning. It's a long dart so I had a lot of free time to listen to music and mess around on my phone. I again got breakfast in the centra because of the cheap prices. I was to arrive at the law firm at 9:30 but was early everyday which was good because I wasn't under any pressure. Today I was going to the four courts with Hillary and Donal (solicitor and the owner of Daniel Spring) to deliver documents to the law library and to talk to a client. While the two solicitors were talking to the client I sat in on a case which was interesting. It was a civil law case. After a while Hillary came and got me and we all had lunch in the cafe within the four courts, where I saw Tadgh working alongside a barrister. After lunch we came back to the law firm and it was around 3 o'clock. I then did a new job called a swearing singing which cost €25 and and had to be signed by other solicitors. I went across the street to another law firm and they wouldn't accept the pay and gave it to me which was awesome. After work I met up with friends in town and Daniel McGonnel dropped a rack. (€1000) On the morning of the Wednesday of the 6th of December I again got the 8:30 am dart and saw Amy McNulty on the way there who was going to the Peter McVerry trust for the day. I then got off again at Pearse Station and went for breakfast. I then arrived early again and at around 10 am I went into the Workplace Relations Commission. (WRC) I examined their confidential case where a women had lost her job and wasn't getting redundancy payments. After the WRC I linked all the company computers to the new printer and then went for lunch. I had lunch with Daniel, Jack, Adele and Aidan in McDonalds which was a nice treat. After arriving back I went law clerking which is a treacherous task that all lawyers hate but it must be done. It is getting stamps and verification that all documents are filed and real. I then went home and repeated the morning process, but today I took the Luas because my mum was passing. Thursday was a very quiet day where I read over cases and then went for lunch with my friends again and we went to Tolteca. Tolteca is a Mexican restaurant and I had a really enjoyable burrito that was huge! I then went back to the office, read over two more cases and went home. After I left there was a scandal that someone had taken the whole chocolate milk trey! The morning on the 8th, Friday morning I again got the dart in and went for breakfast. As I was walking to the office I picked up a new milk trey for the office and everyone was delighted. It was another quiet day and I read cases in the beginning. Then for lunch I went out with my cousins who were working in town and we went to Milano's. The pizza was great. After lunch I was given a huge gift of €100 from Donal Spring which was such a nice treat. After work I went out around town shopping and looking around and finally got the 6:30 dart home. I loved my work experience and can't wait for my next week.
